38 Orthopedic & Spine Device Company Executive Moves in 2011

Former president of medication delivery company Baxter Healthcare Peter Arduini was named CEO of orthopedic device company Integra LifeSciences. He replaced Stuart Essig, who became chairman of the company's board.

Wright Medical Group's chief technology officer Frank Bono is no longer with the company.

Interventional Spine named Stephen T. Colaiezzi senior vice president. He previously worked with Stryker, Medtronic and Aesculap.

Leslie H. Cross, former CEO of DJO Global, was elected to the Alphatec Spine board of directors as the non-executive chairman of the board. While with DJO Global, Mr. Cross helped the company's revenues grow from $30 million-$966 million.

Ascendx Spine recently appointed Maria Pilar Debelius-Kinsey as the company's new sales and marketing manager in Europe. She has served in management and sales positions at Medtronic and SpineVision.

Former Smith & Nephew executive Joseph DeVivo has become president of minimally invasive medical device company AngioDynamics, which focuses on vascular surgery. At Smith & Nephew, Mr. DeVivo led the company's $2 billion orthopedic business.

Former COO of Medtronic Michael DeMane was appointed president and CEO of Nevro, a spinal device company. Mr. DeMane filled the space vacated by founder and CEO Konstantinos Alataris, who remained as director of the company.

Andrew Ekdahl became president of DePuy Orthopaedics after serving DePuy and its parent company Johnson & Johnson for 20 years. He also serves on the DePuy Franchise Global Management Board.

Former president of Medtronic AVE Europe Romano Ferrari became chairman of Ascendx Spine. In his new role, he will execute the company's commercialization efforts internationally.

Former Worldwide President of DePuy Orthopaedics David K. Floyd will soon be the CEO of OrthoWorx, a Warsaw, Ind.-based orthopedic device company. Mr. Floyd was a founding member of the OrthoWorx board of directors and previously served as president and CEO of AxioMed Spine.

K2M hired new international team leaders in 2011: Larry W. Found as senior vice president of global human relations; Gianluca Iasci as senior vice president of international business; and Carol Pinto as area vice president of Latin America markets.

Spine device company Intrinsic Therapeutics named Cary P. Hagan new president and CEO. He brought 20 years of experienced to his new position, previously working with Wright Medical Group. Founder and board member Greg Lambrecht will remain the company's executive director.

Frances Harrison has been named the new vice president of regulatory, clinical affairs and quality of Alphatec Spine. She has more than 20 years of experience of industry experience and will provide overall strategic direction to the company in her new role.

Biologic and regenerative medicine company SANUWAVE Health named Barbara M. Henagan to its board of directors. She has more than 30 years of experience and is a founding member of Linx Partners. The company also named Ron Sparks to its board. He brought 34 years of experience and previously served as president, CEO and executive director for Accellent.

Orthopedic industry veteran Gary Henley was recently appointed executive chairman of the board of TransCorp Spine. Mr. Henley previously served as president and CEO of Wright Medical Group and in top leadership positions at Orthofix and Smith & Nephew.

In February, Smith & Nephew CEO David Illingworth announced his plans to retire in April. He was replaced by Olivier Bohuon, former chief executive of Pierre Fabre and former executive of Abbott Laboratories.

Pittsburgh-based Ortho-tag appointed Ken Laing as CEO. He is in charge of strategic marketing initiatives and during his first few weeks with the company, he raised $1.6 million.

Stryker appointed former Johnson & Johnson executive Kevin Lobo as group president of its newly-formed Neurotechnology and Spine Group.

Orthofix named interim CFO Brian McCollum permanent CFO of the company, which he has served in various capacities for 10 years.

Orthofix promoted Bryan McMillan to president of its Spine Global Business Unit. He previously served as the company's executive vice president-general management for the spinal implants division of the Global Business Unit and will now oversee activities with the spinal implant and spinal stimulation businesses.

Chief compliance officer of Wright Medical Group Lisa L. Michels recently resigned after serving the company since 2008. Her resignation comes amid federal compliance issues with the company and she has been replaced by John Knighton, director of compliance, who served as interim CCO.

Executive vice president of U.S. commercial operations at DJO Global Andrew Holman left the company. Current president and CEO Mike Mogul took over responsibilities for Mr. Holman, who left to pursue other opportunities.

Former vice president for Integra LifeScience Ric Navarro has become president and CEO of OrthoData. He is the developer of the IntelliRod system for spine surgeons and has been awarded 21 patents throughout his career.

Namal Nawana was named president of DePuy Spine, after serving with the company for more than 13 years. He filled the space of Gary Fischetti, who became company group chairman of the DePuy Family of Companies.

Spine device company K2M appointed Don O'Hearn senior vice president of sales in the Americas. His more than 20-year career in the medical device industry includes positions with Medtronic and AGA Medical before joining K2M.

Robert J. Palmisano was recently named president and CEO of Wright Medical Group, after serving as president and CEO of ev3. The company's interim president and CEO David Stevens will remain chairman of the board.

NuOrtho Surgical appointed Gregory Rainey to its board of directors. Mr. Rainey has previously served in leadership roles in Stryker's orthopedics division and continues to serves on the board of directors for RTI Biologics.

David D. Stevens was appointed interim president and CEO of Wright Medical Group.

Stryker appointed Ramesh Subrahmanian as Group President, International, a position he began fulfilling on Sept. 1. He previously served the company in leadership roles in the United States, Germany, India and Asia Pacific markets.

Former DePuy Orthopaedics president Thomas J. Sullivan was appointed president and CEO of Symmetry Medical, an orthopedic device company. The former Symmetry Medical president, Brian S. Moore, became president of business development and continued serving on the company's board of directors.

Wright Medical Group named Julie D. Tracy senior vice president and chief communications officer. Going into her new position, she had 25 years of experience in the medical device industry and held leadership positions with companies such as Kyphon.

Vincente Trelles was appointed senior vice president of worldwide operations and shared services at Orthofix. He previously served as COO of Inamed.

Orthopedic device company Smith & Nephew named Stéphane Thiroloix president of Europe Advanced Surgical Devices Division. He will be responsible for commercial activities in Europe and focus on orthopedic and sports medicine products.

Medical device company Biomedical Structures named Dean Tulumaris president and CEO. He previously served as president and CEO of Memry and has experience at MedSource Technologies.

Orthofix appointed Robert Vaters as new president and CEO, which took effect August 1. Mr. Vaters previously served as COO of the company and replaced former president and CEO Alan Milinazzo, who will remain on the company's board of directors.
